Who would have known that in the month of July 1934, a young boy named Giorgio Armani who stepped into this world would become one of the leading fashion designers of his times? Armani was born in Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna and started getting trained in the field of medicine for two years but gave it up and started pursuing a career in photography. In the year 1957, he was called for military and after that worked as a window dresser for a respected departmental store called La Rinascente. In 1961, he joined Nino Cerruti and worked as a designer till 1970 after which he started a free-lance business. He established his own menswear label in 1974 with the help of his bosom friend Sergio Galeotti who also helped him to establish a women’s wear line in 1975.
Since then Giorgio Armani has accomplished undeniable success as an acclaimed fashion designer all around the globe. Armani’s women collection is greatly influenced by his men’s wear collection giving a woman a more sophisticated and refined look coveted by women in the six continents of the world. His suits for women are perfectly tailored, and are made to enhance the figure of a woman making her feel like one. He also uses male fabric for making women suits and tailors them perfectly well. Armani entered the world of Hollywood in 1980’s, where he designed clothes for the handsome actor and a human rights activist against aids Richard Gere. Since then Armani has been the pet brand of the glamorous celebrities of the world of Hollywood. Armani not only created wardrobes for characters in movies but also designed for those in opera, theater and dance expanding the Armani Empire. In 1982, Armani appeared on the cover of a prominent magazine i.e. The Time Magazine being the second designer to have this honor.
The first designer was Christian Dior who appeared on the cover in 1940’s. Michelle Pfeiffer, an actress and a stunner, addressed Armani as her “soul mate” and has been addicted to the designer since the filming of her famous movie scarface. Jodie Foster is another huge Armani fan. The pretty, young starlet Katie Holmes wore a Giorgio Armani dress on her wedding with Mission Impossible star Tom cruise. The dress was off-shoulder ivory silk bridal gown embellished with Valenciennes lace and Swarovski crystals with an ivory tulle veil and ivory silk shoes befitting a princess.
