Donna Karan New York also known as DKNY is an American brand. Born on October 9, 1948, Donna Ivy Faske grew up in Long Island. Her mother Helen was a model and her step-father was a tailor. After graduating from Parson’s school of Design, she then worked as an intern with Anne Klein where after her hard work and determination she was made head of the design team. In 1970 she married a man named Mark Karan and had a daughter four years later named Gabrielle in 1974. She also worked with Liz Claiborne and in 1984 she and her husband formed their own fashion house and showed her first collection in 1985. She is known as the queen of the Seventh Avenue because of her modern and trendy line of clothing. She won the Coty award in 1977 and in 1981 and in 1984 she was also introduced into Coty hall of fame. She was made the menswear designer of the year in 1992 and women’s wear designer of the year in 1994 by the council of fashion designers of America. She always said that she formed her company “to design modern clothes for modern people” and she proved that and stood by her words by exactly doing what she claimed.
