The epitome of fashion Christian Dior son of a prosperous fertilizer manufacturer was born in 1905 in Granville a town on the Normandy coast in France. His family moved to Paris in 1910. Born with a passion of becoming an architect Dior on his parents persuasion instead enrolled at Ecole des Sciences Politiques in Paris for a degree in politics which his parents considered both respectable and honorable. But Dior who had an intense interest in art opened an art gallery in 1928 which soon prospered beyond his wildest dreams. With paintings from Pablo Picasso, Max Jacob, and Jean Cocteau, Galerie Jacques Bonjean had become splendorous in every sense of the word. It was then in 1931 when the Dior family disintegrated after the death of his elder brother and his mother. Galerie Jacques Bonjean was closed and Dior was reduced to rags until he found a job as an assistant to Robert Piquet. He joined the French army in the World War 2 after which he joined his family. After the world war industrialist Marcel Boussac helped Dior set up his own couture house which gave him a tremendous start in the fashion industry followed by a colossal success in the years to come.

After Dior’s death, Saint Laurent became the head designer. Christian Dior is now under the ownership of Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH). Sales of Dior clothes shot upto $193 million dollars in 1994.
